Gather Atlanta - Saturday June 6th

From the Gather Atlanta Site…

The last two years have seen a groundswell of activity for creativity in Atlanta. Enthusiasm for supporting, collecting, and promoting local artists continues to rise. In 2009, as confidence begins to drain in other sectors, Atlanta’s creative communities stand by their values: We still want to create and see great art!

Announcing the Gather Atlanta first annual emerging creatives conference, to be held Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Eyedrum Art and Music Gallery. Gather Atlanta is an annual networking event presented by MINT, BurnAway.org, WonderRoot, and ThoughtMarker that seeks to:

Unite and promote Atlanta’s emerging galleries, alternative art spaces, and young creative collectives
Improve collaboration between Atlanta’s disparate arts organizations
Embrace a community traditionally separated by Atlanta geography or differences in artistic identity
Provide a forum for creative discourse, fresh ideas, and for sharing resources

Gather Atlanta will feature:

A public discussion panel featuring leading voices in Atlanta arts and from Atlanta’s most successful alternative groups
Informational displays representing approximately two dozen galleries, cooperatives, and creative collectives
Food and refreshments provided by our sponsors
And more to be announced!

Gather Atlanta aims to strengthen our local arts scene and introduce the public to the world of creativity developing right in their own back yard!

Art House will be there!!!!!

Camera unwrapping picture

A Million Little Pictures
Ryan Robinson
received his camera in the mail recently!

Call me narcissistic, but for some reason I love seeing pictures of people opening up their project materials. Ryan’s is exceptionally awesome probably due to the fact that he’s a photographer who knew how to photograph the package that a camera came in. A match made in heaven.

I can’t wait to see what Ryan and everyone else does for their submissions to A Million Little Pictures! Remember, sign ups are still open, so get your camera and participate!

First Entry for AMLP:Documentary Received!

Im so excited to report that we got our first A Million Little Pictures: Documentary entry back in the mail.

This entry is by Daniel V. from Mount Rainier, MD.  I was really intriqued by Daniel’s entry because we wanted people to document their lives in 24 frames, and I think Daniel did this in a very cool way. I look at all the photos and try to formulate a story about what these pictures mean for the people taking them. I’m really excited about this project because so much of it is left up to the viewers interpretation of what these images might signify in the artists lives, and isn’t that what art is all about?

If you’d like to sign up for the A Million Little Pictures:Documentary project click here.

Michelle Dickson, Art House’s Artist in Residence

Michelle Dickson is our current artist in residence, and we’re really excited about her upcoming show! She’s been working really hard in our gallery this month, and will be showing her finished pieces in the May ArtStroll. As an artist in residence, she’s in the galley 24/7; She literally sleeps in the loft above Steven and Shane’s desks! We’re very happy to have her here, and hope everyone can make it to her show on the 22nd of May.

More pictures and an interview with the artist after the jump!
