We’ll send you a lined Moleskine journal. Fill it up with a narrative of some sort and send it back to us. It will be shown at the exhibition and then permanently reside at the Brooklyn Art Library for the public to see.
SPECIAL: Until January 31st, we are offering specials on group and educational discounts of 20% off for groups of 10 or more and 10% off groups of 4 or more. Please email to receive your discount.
ANY group order qualifies for a discount. It does not have to be from an educational institution.
We have plenty of sketchbooks. Now we're looking for authors, writers, 'zine makers, and children's book illustrators to create fictional based narratives and much more to be added to the library.
Sign up and receive a 5.5 by 8.5 inch Moleskine Cahier notebook and a randomly selected theme. Create your narrative using words and images and send it back to be a part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library.
Sign up over to the left to receive your book.
This project is a sister project to The Sketchbook Project. The Fiction Project sets its sights on literature and creating a narrative book that fuses writing with art.
Each book submitted will be housed at the Brooklyn Art Library in Red Hook.
The only rules are that your book must be 51% writing based, the journal we send you is used in some way, and that it stays the same size when closed (5.5x8.5 inches). We encourage mixing writing with art.
You don't have to be alone in this! Art House is all about collaboration, and this is no exception. Find someone to illustrate while you do the writing or vice-versa. Or work on all the areas together. Grab an entire group of friends and pass the book around. Nothing is off limits.
When you sign up, your book will be randomly assigned a theme. This is just a guideline to give you a gentle push in a direction. You are by no means absolutely bounded to this theme. You can even be as loose as using words from the theme in your story.
Art House is moving to Brooklyn in February and opening The Brooklyn Art Library. Art House always believed that art should be accessible to everyone, and with the new library we are able to not only provide the opportunity to create art but also house it all.
The Brooklyn Art Library will archive artwork from artists all around the world. It's a gallery in a library format.
Your book will be a part of the library's permanent collection and will be able to be pulled off of the shelf and looked through.
After you sign up to participate in the project, we'll mail you a package containing a lined Moleskine sketchbook with a barcode on it, a randomly picked theme to create your book around, and detailed instructions about the project.
To give visitors to the library variety and to aid in choosing what to look at, we are assigning each person a theme for their book. Themes are assigned at random upon signing up and are pulled out of a list of 30 different themes.
After the exhibition in brooklyn, the books will be on view at the Brooklyn art Library where the public is free to come and read through the books.

All the images in artists profile and the project photos section are uploaded by the artist. Art House does not and can not upload or take photos of your work. If you want to upload your own images make sure you take photos before you mail it off. If you need help with this we would be happy to help if you send us an email!
Art House does everything we can to keep your art work in great un-lost condition. However stuff happens. Unfortunately we can not replace your art work and are not responsible for lost, stolen, dropped in bin of water, ripped, destroyed, or anything else of that nature, artwork. We will try to make it better with what we can do, but again, we are not responsible.
Your work is your work. We will never ever sell your physical work without your permission or not give you your share. We will however use your work in promotional materials, web ads, print ads and the like. We will also from time to time publish your work in an art house book. We reserve all copyright ownership to the books published. Each project will specifically state if the art work will be sold or not at the exhibitions.
We will always do our best to respond to your email in a timely manner. However, remember if you have a question 100 other people are probably emailing the same question. Please read through our FAQ's, the project rules and the general rules before emailing us. We can not respond to all emails. At times especially around deadline times emails can be overlooked. We apologize and ask that you are patient with us. Most answers can be found on this website somewhere!
Currently we are only open by appointment. Please email us if you want to come see an exhibition while it is up. We can not extend the dates for any reason.
We will be posting the Brooklyn Art Library hours when it opens in February.
Exhibition photos can always be found on our flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/arthousecoop/ within one week of an exhibition.
By submitting artwork to Art House, LLC, you are giving Art House, LLC the right to use images of your book for any promotional materials and on our websites and any other print publications we put out. Newspapers and other media outlets (including online blogs) are allowed to use images of your sketchbook in promotional material promoting Art House.
Your work is your work and you retain the rights to it. We simply want to be able to show it off. Please note that we are unable to return books to the artist as they will instead be going into the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Art Library where they will be available for the public to see.
